What is this?
Any vaginal bleeding during pregnancy, at any month, is not normal. Even small spotting needs urgent attention. The cause may be that the placenta is not properly attached to the uterus, or it may be early labour before the baby is full-term. Both situations can put the mother and baby at serious risk if care is delayed.
A small streak of blood that stops on its own still needs to be checked the same day. Heavy bleeding, especially with belly pain or after a fall, is a true emergency β the woman must reach a District Hospital within the hour.
- Call ASHA immediately
- Phone 108 for the ambulance
- Lie down on the left side β do NOT stand
- Do NOT eat or drink anything (a C-section may be needed)
- Go to the CHC or District Hospital right away
