What is this?

When two or more babies are growing in the womb, the mother's body carries far more weight and works much harder than in a single pregnancy. She is more likely to feel very tired, short of breath, and uncomfortable. The babies may grow more slowly and are more likely to be born early β€” before they are fully ready.

Twins and triplets almost always need a hospital delivery β€” often a Caesarean section. Complications during labour and delivery are much more common with multiple pregnancies, and a surgical team must be ready. Register at the CHC or District Hospital as soon as twins are confirmed, and attend a check-up every month without missing any.

What to do now
  • Register at the CHC or District Hospital immediately after twins are confirmed
  • Attend a full check-up every month β€” do not miss any
  • Prepare money and transport for the hospital from now
  • Deliver only at the CHC or District Hospital β€” never at home

Pathway: ASHA→CHC / District Hospital (register early)→Monthly ANC→Deliver at hospital only

⚠️ When is it dangerous?

The risk in a twin or multiple pregnancy runs throughout the entire pregnancy β€” not just at delivery. High blood pressure, severe anaemia, and early labour are all much more common. Hospital delivery is essential β€” a home delivery with twins carries a very high risk of death for both mother and babies.
